JT The Brick is even surprised at the aftermath of Michael Vick reportedly drinking an alcoholic drink at the airport. At the same time, Brick also stated on his show today ( Aug. 25th ) that Vick shouldn’t be consuming alchohol in public and agrees that Dungy was in the right for getting mad at Vick for this situation.

My view is two-tiered.

1. Who Gives A F&^K!

Michael Vick is a man that was sent to prison for gross abuse of animals. He wasn’t harming any animals at the airport, he didn’t have a Leonard Little/Stallworth binge and put anyone’s life in danger, and he was drinking a cocktail with an umbrella in it!

An umbrella? A husky male who plays football as a profession and did hard time for some bad things, he is getting attention because he had a cocktail? If one thinks about this clearly, in most other cases Vick would be getting scolded by the media for being a pansy for drinking a chick drink. How many men you know in your life drink cocktails with an umbrella in it?

I know, masculinity is compromised in this situation because men aren’t suppose to be drinking these types of drinks. But that is another argument based on the perception of the hyper-male in American society, which I won’t go into right now.

But he was drinking, and he was at the airport. Who gives a sh*t? I understand that he must keep up an amazing image, and I understand that Tony Dungy doesn’t want him to compromise his image by doing these things. At the same time, one has to wonder at what degree can is Vick able to live his life? Will he be banned ( through public opinion ) to not be able to be somewhat informal in public places? Will he always have to wear a suit and cry and hug cute restless pugs to show that he is sorry?

This story is majorly overblown, and it also shows the apathy we place on real issues at the expense of sensationalism of a non-issue. We should be focusing more on the drudgery of dog-fighting practices, and not on what Michael Vick is drinking. The reason we put him in prison was not so we can microscope every controversial aspect of his life, but to send a message that we must aware and adamant against the abuse of animals. Period.

2. He Represents the NFL brand, and the decision to allow him to manipulate the brand.

I will say that Dungy has a point: The media can get negative at these situations he could put himself in. Even though this drink may be meaningless, the reaction can teach him to regress away from the spotlight for the sake of showcasing his dedication to football, and Roger Goodell’s decision to bring him back. If anything, this event will keep both Michael Vick and the NFL on its toes, and hopefully Vick will understand the enormous public relations tasks to position himself toward something positive in the eyes of those that will keep a close watch.

Verdict

Sorry Vick, you gotta drink at home. Or conceal your booze in yellow-colored screwdrivers until people believe you are a born-again Christian that can do no wrong.

If you had this much money, you could buy the moon. Or, you could get a refund if you tried to buy the moon from Carl Everett. You know what he would tell you.

But this money was charged to a New Hampshire man’s debit account when he bought a pack of cigarettes from a gas station. When he had looked at his account later on, it showed that he had owed $23,148,855,308,184,500.

Let me digress by stating the hilarity of this episode peaks since the debiting bank Bank of America still slapped the poor son of a gun with an overdraft fee of $15. In trying to squeeze out every single cent from the working class, they nearly loaned out the equivalent of all the money in the world 1000 fold!

Anyway, Josh Muszynski showed the statement to the gas attendant and she was shocked:

“The gentleman it happened to came in with his laptop and showed me that number, and I couldn’t believe it,”

He had promptly called up his bank and the Visa company, and the outrageous amount was corrected the next day.

When WMUR, the news team that covered this incident, tried to question the bank about the error, the bank told them that reps from Visa could only answer questions. And when WMUR contacted Visa, Visa stated only Bank of America reps can answer questions. So the game of hot potato was afoot!

Visa released a statement about the error, and apologized to the people it has affected.

People is pluralized, for one reason they mentioned that the glitch may affect many people with pre-paid debit cards in the US. For another, I found two other incidences of the quadrillion dollars shebangle.

Incident 2

Hey Butch, I love you, and sometimes you don’t make any sense. I have to point out the latter when you were talking to Pete Sheppard about the Jack Wilson rumors.

I think this was on Tuesday afternoon ( about 3-330pm ) where a caller phoned in on the Big Show to ask if the Red Sox were still planning on trading for a shortstop.

Jack Wilson was brought up, since there have been rumors that the Red Sox were interested in the guy. Pete Sheppard dismissed the story, saying that there hasn’t been much rumbling since its release. I forgot who the other guest was, but both the guest and Sheppard had felt that trading for Wilson would be too much money to eat ( with his $9 million contract ).

Butch Stearns doesn’t like the trade rumor because he doesn’t think Jack Wilson can contribute more than the current Lugo/Nick Greene core. During this whole argument, Stearns pretty much is taking the stance that Wilson would not be a good fit.

So, Butch finally ends the conversation with (paraphrasing) ” It would be great to have (Garrett) Atkins and Wilson on the bench.” Someone mentions afterward that Wilson is starting if he comes to the Red Sox.

Butch then says something like: ” I don’t know about that.”

Then, I think Pete Sheppard (probably in total awe) asks Butch ( I am paraphrasing )

” You think that if Jack Wilson will have to compete for the starting job here?”

And you hear Butch, with knowledge of a million gods reply:

“Maybe!”

Butch, what the faaaaaack!?!? The absolute worst reply you that could be given responding to this question. Butch, really? You think that ( and/or situations below ):

A: The Red Sox would flop on an extra $3-4 million dollars to lose a roster spot by carrying THREE SHORTSTOPS and having the best one FIGHT FOR HIS JOB?

B: That somehow Nick Greene is better than Jack Wilson? And if so, the Red Sox would TRADE FOR HIM ANYWAY?

I know some Red Sox fans might agree with B, in which case there would be no reason to trade for him in the first place. But Wilson is probably one of the, and if not, the best defensive shortstop in the National League. No argument on who is better. None.

But Butchie, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were only ignorant enough that you are unaware of how good Wilson is, and your dispute is based on the fact that Wilson isn’t a need for this team.

But trading for such a talent just so he can sit next to Lugo and watch Nick Greene turn double-plays would be the most ridiculous scenario in sports. It would peak the Matt Cassell/ Tom Brady controversy only because of the roaring laughter that would commence in every baseball front office in the country.

When I was texted that he passed away with another woman last week, I replied to my good friend a mantra that I have imbued upon many over my short life-time:

” Most people die over money or women; and most occurs the latter.”

That went through my mind the second I heard that Mcnair got shot twice in the head. This guy has money, and he doesn’t ever promote a lifesyle that he is wasting it or using it in the wrong fashion.

And double upon that, he wasn’t not only with his wife, but he was in company with a woman nearly half his age.

It hurts. I know people cheat. But it does hurt to think ( and hopefully this isn’t true ) that his infidelity might of lead to a crime of passion. I don’t believe his wife has any involement, but would be least surprised that whoever had committed this crime was known by the younger female.

Steve, you were the best. A clutch quarterback, always played hurt, never dissed your teammates, walked off the field, did pushups under the Drew Rosenhaus’s daft publicity stunts, or slam a stripper’s head onto a stage.

He was football at its best. And he went out on top. I know, very long after this sad event is settled, I will still remember you for the memories you and the Oilers/Titans teams gave me over the last decade. Take care, buddy.

Also, a lesson for the infidelitous: these situations happen, remember if you are with someone that is with someone else, there is a chance that you will get your ass kicked or fucked up worse. It can happen to anybody.

I thought he was amazing, considering that there was a great deal of material that this guy couldn’t drag out on a network station. More surprisingly was the material he was able to churn out on the stage ( a bit about suicide, another about a stripper named Jupiter ).

Overall, it seemed that he wasn’t getting the assumed response from the audience as he should, so his joke transitions were apparent and kinda awkward.

I can’t fault him for this. He had a good run of jokes, but the audience for some odd reason didn’t “get” it. Surprising, since he was amazingly funny. I even felt awkward for laughing when everyone else wasn’t laughing ( to make sure you understand, I was watching this at home, and wasn’t actually there ).

I had to write this because if you had watched it and tried to gauge the humor by the audience response, you would’ve got a false positive. Very strange, one of the few moments I can think of when someone is really funny but not getting the reaction one would expect from the Tonight Show fans.

Bill Burr, if you are reading this, bravo on your performance, and too bad the audience wasn’t riveted by your work. The observational humor was too straight-forward for such confusing lulls during your set.

Take a small peak at Jesse Mcartney’s wiki, and tell me:

Do you think this is the type of music that football fans want to hear during the halftime of a football game during Thanksgiving?

Well, CBS answered the question by having Jesse sing at the mid-point between the Lions-Titans game on Turkey Day. Already hampered by a shattering economy, rampant unemployment, crime, and a winless Lions team, the Detroit faithful are tortured even more as they listen to a teeny-bopper sensation after a 35-10 shellacking in the 1st half.

Probably one of the worst quarters I have ever witnessed in the history of football, but the Lions did redeem themselves by getting a touchdown off a turnover late in the 2nd quarter. But the misery for Michigan, and for the national audience, was only exacerbated by listening to music that has little to do with the gridiron.

Hell, this music has little to do with sports at all. I understand that the dominance of content of ABC/ESPN, along with the trend of marketing to other demographics by combining different forms of entertainment within sports ( did anyone see the “Who Knows Reggie Bush More” segment on the MNF pre-game show?), forces media outlets to come up with eccentric partnerships to gain a bigger audience.

I’ll finish this post later. Its Turkey Day; I need to eat:)

I was hanging out at a bar and had seen the beautiful Kim Kardashian on ESPN with Reggie Bush. There was no audio, but the captions and the graphics gave way that the feature was whether Bush’s future wife, or his teammate Bobby Mccray.

I was upset only because these media outlets are moving so much to combining content ( especially content that is “advertising” for their networks and/or media partnerships ), that it is permeating through true sports content.

Yes, Reggie Bush plays for the team that was playing on Monday Night. Yes, the network probably had this feature in the works before the injury, and was going to use this as a supplement to their analysis.

But, MNF pre-game, although very hard to extend the attention span of sports viewers for an hour of analysis these days, should be no prime ground for these celebrity features.

The sad part is, I contradicted my own argument when I had an argument with a friend over why Maxim’s content scheme works. These media outlets are losing money all over the place. The advertising coin is drying up on paper and on the internet. The business models, new and old, aren’t squeezing out the revenue.

Many content networks are hitting the lowest-common denominator with showcasing celebrities, beautiful women, mainstream music and movies, and reality TV reviews. These are the types of things that creates an audience on the internet.

If you don’t believe me, write an article on the zone blitz and how the Pittsburg Steelers will be less/more successful from it, then write an article on Kim Kardashian. What article did you read when you first came to my site. I know which one you did. I rest my case.

At the same time, you can’t gave that type of content interfering in what I believe is a very important piece of sports entertainment: the MNF pre-game show. Maybe I’m wrong, but I was hoping to see more on Brees chances to win MVP, and not a game on whether Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush bond better than his teammates.

Can’t knock the video. Great feature, I’m a sucker for sports-celebrity realtionships ( Toni Braxton-Curtis-Martin anyone?), and Kim is great to look at.

Speaking of eye candy, where is Bonnie Bernstein?

This just doesn’t look like him. This was the front cover of ESPN’s website. They could’ve gotten a better photo than this.
